Award-winning Marlborough winemaker Ben Glover is continuing his winegrowing journey with the release of Zephyr’s first certified organic wines from their Glover Family Vineyards.
It has been an exciting road for Ben, winemaker, and owner of Zephyr Wines to release the first tranche of his organic wines from the 17ha home vineyard in Dillons Point, which he and his wife Susie converted to organic farming in 2017.
Current certified organic releases from the 2020 vintage include the Zephyr ‘MK I’ Rose, Zephyr Gewurztraminer, and Zephyr ‘Agent’ Field Blend, with the 2020 Zephyr Organic Sauvignon Blanc set to hit the market this month.
Ben has just been awarded the prestigious Leadership Award at the 2021 Gourmet Traveller Wine NZ Winemaker of the Year Awards, last month. And along with his extensive experience as an International Wine Judge, including the position of Head Judge for Cuisine Magazine and Marlborough Wine Show Chair, Ben is certainly giving back.
Ben’s wines, too, are no stranger to the awards podium. With the Zephyr Organic Sauvignon Blanc 2020 just receiving an Outstanding 95 points by Decanter Magazine.
Decanter reviewer Cameron Douglas MS summed up Zephyr’s 2020 Organic Sauvignon Blanc perfectly: “A satin texture is contrasted by crisp and refreshing acidity, a core of fruits from melon to white peach and gooseberry. Enticing and complete with a lick of sea salt, mineral and blossoms on the finish,”
This follows the Zephyr MK1 Rosé 2019 result of New Zealand’s Champion Organic Rosé at the NZ Organic Wine Awards last year.
Zephyr’s approach to being certified organic through Biogro New Zealand, has been to keep things pure and simple, concentrating on creating a good growing environment through soil health and biodiversity and continuing through to mindful consumption.
