A Hauntingly Good Time at MOTAT

It only happens once a year and it’s almost that spine-tingling time again! On Saturday 28 October MOTAT dares to host the lost souls, ghastly spirits and creatures of the night for a ‘spooktacular’ line up of entertainment guaranteed to make your skin crawl.

“While bright and cheerful during the day time, MOTAT transforms into an eerie wonderland at night,” says Sarah Somerville MOTAT’s Public Programmes Manager. “The Museum and its Victorian styled buildings will be brought to life with sinister characters, macabre mazes and other unnerving surprises. This is not a night for the faint hearted,” she warns.

Patrons will be entertained by ghastly apparitions and stilt walkers from the moment they arrive, haunted by their journey through a chilling ‘Dolls House’ and disturbed by what they witness in the ‘Carnival of Lost Souls’. They can pay a visit to the haunted tram or house of haunted dreams if they dare and join in the ghostly wedding festivities of wraith-like jilted brides in the Victorian Village. Meet the embalmer and taxidermist eagerly awaiting human volunteers in the ‘Ghost Market’, a paranormal scientist in the old school house and the Victorian magician being haunted by his murdered assistant. Futures will be foreseen by a skilled tarot card reader and professional spooky face painting is on offer for visitors as they mingle amongst the creepy creatures.

Add to this the showmanship of live performances and music, costume parades, tasty treats and an edgy atmosphere of eerie fun and its bound to equal a night out like no other.

The Museum’s Olde Hallows Eve has become a much-anticipated favourite on the Auckland event calendar. “The atmosphere was electric and everyone enjoyed themselves,” says a previous guest. So, join in the fun, indulge your daring side and celebrate Halloween at MOTAT this year.

Tickets can be purchased from the MOTAT website from $20 per person plus booking fee. Door sales are available on the night. This event is open to all ages, however parental discretion is advised and some activities are recommended for ages 13+. Watch the promotional video.
